Dog treats – or simply "yummies" – are needed much more often than just "for good behavior": they are used for training, to calm a dog during travel or at the vet, to keep a dog occupied at home, and for dental care. At Urban Tails, you'll find natural treats without artificial additives, colorings, or unnecessary fillers – so the treat not only brings joy but is also healthy. At home, it's usually useful to have more than one type: small bites for training, a longer-lasting chew for the evening, and a few functional ones if the dog has a specific need. It's worth remembering that treats should not make up more than about a tenth of a dog's daily diet. Long-lasting chews for dogscan be found in a separate category.
What kind of treats should you choose for your dog?
- Training treats– small, soft, and quickly eaten, so that training isn't interrupted and the dog doesn't get full in half an hour. Other training aidscan be found separately.
- Natural dried treats– just dried meat, offal, or skin without additives: ears, tracheas, lungs, necks, braids, and feet. Long-lasting chews, so they are also suitable for keeping your dog occupied.
- Fish treats– salmon skin, dried cod, and sprats; a natural source of omega fatty acids, often chosen for skin and coat health. Kronch treatsare also made from fresh salmon.
- Freeze-dried treats– freeze-dried meat and fish retain their nutritional properties and strong aroma, making them effective even with picky dogs.
- Biscuits and soft treats– baked biscuits and soft bites for daily rewards; smaller and softer ones are also suitable as treats for puppies with milk teeth.
Treats with additional benefits
- Dental care treats– chewing sticks that help reduce plaque when chewed; meat-free options are also available.
- Functional treats– with additional ingredients for joints, digestion, skin and coat, or calmness.
- Single-protein and grain-free treats– a single meat source without grains: suitable for allergic dogs, dogs with sensitive digestive systems, and for elimination diets.
